We want to be upfront about something before this guide goes any further: Curacao's tourism board does not publish an official average daily or per-trip visitor spend figure, and neither does any other primary source we could find. Several sites will hand you a confident "a week costs $X" number anyway. We are not going to do that, because we cannot verify it. What follows instead is the honest version: the real, sourced numbers we do have, and reasonable planning ranges for everything else, labeled clearly as our own estimate rather than something we are pretending is official data.

The one hard number: hotel rates
The Curacao Hospitality and Tourism Association reports an islandwide hotel average daily rate of $305.87 in March 2026, up from $275.44 the year before, with occupancy at 88.9 percent. That is a real, sourced figure, but it is an island average across budget villas and high-end resorts alike, and it is a single month's snapshot during a season with strong demand, so a shoulder-season rate at a mid-range property will typically run lower. Use it as a benchmark, not a quote for your specific dates.
Worth knowing: 44 percent of Curacao's 2025 stayover visitors chose alternative accommodation, villas, apartments, and vacation rentals, over resort hotels, and that share is higher still among the island's largest visitor group, the Dutch, many of whom stay 11 to 14 nights on average. If your budget is tight, a rental with a kitchen genuinely changes your food spend more than any other single decision.

Taxes you should budget for
This part is fully sourced and easy to plan around. The curacao tax authority's own omzetbelasting page, which we read directly on 29 August 2026, sets the turnover tax (Omzetbelasting, OB) at 6 percent generally, 7 percent on short-stay accommodation of up to 90 days, and a high tariff of 9 percent covering food, soft drinks and alcohol consumed on the premises of a hotel, cafe or restaurant, diving, excursions in which a vehicle or a boat is an essential part, and car and boat rental. Posted retail prices generally already include this tax, but hotel and tour quotes sometimes do not, so confirm before you book anything with a meaningful price tag. There is a proposed flat visitor entry fee that would replace the accommodation tax, but as of this research it had not been enacted, so do not budget for it yet.
Food: where the real savings live
We do not have a sourced per-meal cost figure to hand you, so here is the honest planning guidance instead. Plasa Bieu, the old market in Punda, and similar local spots serve home-style Curacaoan food at a fraction of resort dining prices, and it recurs constantly in what travelers and locals both point to as the better value and the better meal. Resort and hotel restaurant menus run considerably higher, as they do on any Caribbean island, largely because of a captive audience rather than materially better food. A rental with a kitchen lets you handle breakfast and some lunches yourself, which is where a genuinely meaningful chunk of a week's food budget tends to go on any trip like this. Getting around: rent only the days you need
Curacao's size and the spread of its main attractions, Willemstad, Jan Thiel, Westpunt, Christoffel National Park, mean a rental car matters more here than on a smaller island with a single hotel strip. But you do not necessarily need one for the entire trip if you are based in Jan Thiel or Willemstad and mostly want beach time near your hotel. Tipping norms
This one is genuinely sourced and worth knowing before you go, since getting it wrong either way costs you money or looks bad. Restaurants and hotels commonly already include a service charge, roughly 10 percent at restaurants and 12 percent at hotels, distinct from a tip. Check your bill first. If a service charge is already there, an additional 5 percent for great service is appreciated but not expected; if it is not on the bill, 10 to 15 percent is the norm. Taxis run roughly 10 percent of the fare or a round-up. Tour guides commonly receive $5 to $10 per person for good service, and boat crews on snorkel or dive trips commonly receive 10 to 20 percent of the package price, shared among the crew.

What actually moves the total
Based on the sourced pieces above, the single biggest lever on your total cost is which accommodation type you choose (resort versus a rental with a kitchen) and which season you travel in, since Curacao's Dec to Apr peak runs at meaningfully higher demand and pricing than the September to October trough. The second biggest lever is how much of your dining happens at resort prices versus local spots like Plasa Bieu. Everything else, tours, car rental days, tips, is real money but a smaller share of the total than those two decisions.
