Neither of these needs a certification, and they carry the same starting price, so format is the whole decision. The group version runs about four hours and opens with a full theory session on diving and its risks before the water at the tugboat spot or Caracasbaai. The private version runs three hours, takes one booking per departure with a maximum of four people, and hands you a PADI professional for the briefing and the dive.

The real trade-off
