Cas Abao (also spelled Kas Abou) is a wide, developed beach on the central west coast, run as a paid facility rather than an open public beach. Entry runs about $6 per carload on weekdays and $7 on weekends (up to four people, extra people about $1.40 each), with beach chairs a further $3. That fee buys full facilities: showers, restrooms, a beach bar and restaurant, and calm, clear water with a real fringing reef that makes this one of the more reliable snorkel spots on the island for less experienced swimmers. It is also a regular stop for tour coaches and cruise excursions, so the calm, resort-like feel comes with real crowds at midday.
Best time
Open 8am-6pm daily. Morning is calmer and less crowded; tour coaches and cruise excursion groups tend to arrive by late morning.
Swim safety
Calm and reef-protected, one of the more beginner-friendly snorkel beaches on the island.
Parking
Entry fee (about $6-7) is charged per carload, not per person, which covers parking.
Shade
Some natural or rentable shade available.
