One thing up front: this is an informed local read on Baoase, built from the resort's own published policies, its Forbes Travel Guide listing, awards we verified at the source rather than off a press page, and the themes that recur across guest feedback. We have not spent a night here, and we will not invent a check-in moment to suggest otherwise. The top of the price ladder is exactly where borrowed first-person detail does the most damage.
The short answer
Baoase is worth it if what you are buying is smallness and privacy rather than facilities. With 23 rooms, suites, and villas in total, it is not a resort in the ordinary Caribbean sense but a walled garden on a hand-built beach where the point is that almost nobody else is there.
The recognition is real and checkable, which matters at this end of the market. Baoase was voted the #1 resort in the Caribbean in the Conde Nast Traveler 2025 Readers' Choice Awards, and took the top spot for the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas in Travel + Leisure's 2025 World's Best Awards. We confirmed both on those publications' own lists. It also carries a Forbes Travel Guide listing.
It is the wrong booking if you want a big pool deck, a swim-up bar, a kids club, a full spa building, a long walkable beach, or nightlife near your room. Those are not gaps Baoase failed to close; they are what it deliberately does not have.

What Baoase actually is
The number that explains everything else is 23. Per Forbes Travel Guide, every one of those accommodations has private outdoor space, from a patio on the smaller categories to a garden-enclosed pool in the three-bedroom Tropical Pool Villa. The range runs from Beachfront Pool Suites and Honeymoon Suites through two-bedroom Private Pool Villas and three-bedroom Tropical Pool Villas to a four-bedroom Superior Private Pool Villa and the two-story Master Villa, the house the property grew out of.
The beach is the part most people misunderstand. It was not found, it was made. The owning family built up the private beach, the sheltered lagoon, and the gardens rather than inheriting a natural stretch of coast, and the resort calls the result a private lagoon-style beach. That is why the water is unusually calm and why guests routinely swim in the lagoon instead of the pool. It is also why the beach is genuinely small. Which of those you notice depends on what you came for.
There is one shared pool, infinity-edged and facing the sea, reserved for resort guests per Forbes. Per the resort's accommodations page, 12 of the 23 units have a private plunge pool. The corollary matters: 11 do not, so if a private pool is why you are booking, check the category.
Dining is two restaurants. The Culinary Beach Restaurant puts tables at the water's edge for French cooking with Asian influence, and the Sunset Deck Restaurant runs a themed menu most nights, Mexican on Tuesday through to a Saturday barbecue. Breakfast is included, and both are open to non-guests. The spa is deliberately small: no spa building, with treatments in your own villa or a massage gazebo by the ocean, built around scrubs, massages, and 100 percent aloe vera packings.
One clarification, because it trips people up: Baoase is not an all-inclusive resort. Only five properties on the island genuinely are. Baoase sells an optional all-inclusive meal plan and a Full American plan bolted onto a room rate, which is a different product entirely.
Where it actually is
Baoase sits on the south coast just outside Willemstad, in the Marie Pampoen area. The address is published as Winterswijkstraat 2, and you will also see Abraham de Veerstraat 12 in some listings.
What matters is what it is not in. Not Pietermaai, not Otrobanda, not Piscadera, not the Jan Thiel strip. It is its own pocket of coast, and any guide filing it under a standard hotel zone is guessing. Our where to stay breakdown covers those zones properly; Baoase belongs to none of them.
That cuts both ways. In your favour: the resort describes itself as minutes from the heart of Willemstad, and third-party listings put it around 15 minutes from the Handelskade waterfront, so dinner in Pietermaai is a taxi ride rather than an outing. The airport is about 14 km away, which the resort puts at 15 to 20 minutes and Forbes at 22 to 30.

Is it adults-only?
No, and this is stated wrongly all over the internet, so here is exactly what the resort's own material says.
Its FAQ answers directly: families with children are warmly welcomed, and it calls the setting suitable for guests of all ages. Its visitor rules require children under 12 to be accompanied by an adult, a supervision rule, not an age ban. Two villa categories are marketed in the resort's own words to couples or families with children. Forbes lists babysitting services.
So it is adult-oriented but open to families. The feel is unmistakably couples-first and there is no kids club, but couples dominate the guest mix by self-selection and price rather than by rule.
Before assuming the alternatives are stricter: only two properties on the island are enforceably adults-only, Sandals Royal Curacao, which is 18 and over brand-wide, and Art Hotel Curacao, which states it does not accommodate children without publishing a minimum age. Others routinely described that way are not, including Zoetry Curacao, which Hyatt's own page calls adult-oriented while permitting children. Isla Kiniw, the private island add-on
Baoase's most unusual offering is not at the resort. Isla Kiniw is a private island in Curacao's Spanish Water bay, bookable through the resort, holding one villa with four double bedrooms and four bathrooms for two to eight guests. Published facilities include a private beach, an infinity pool, a pool bar, a full kitchen with outdoor barbecue, a grand piano, and a helicopter platform. Forbes describes it in the same terms, a useful cross-check on a claim this large.
It is an add-on, not an inclusion, and renting an island carries the isolation that implies. Note also that the resort separately runs a beach day experience under the Bida Island name, which is not Isla Kiniw and is easy to conflate with it.

Who it is for, and who should pick something else

Pick something else if:
- You want a large adults-only all-inclusive. Sandals Royal Curacao is 18 and over, genuinely all-inclusive, roughly 350 rooms at Santa Barbara and Spanish Water. A different holiday, not a cheaper Baoase.
- You want boutique scale with all-inclusive pricing. Zoetry Curacao at Piscadera Bay, the former Floris Suite Hotel, is genuinely all-inclusive at a small scale. Two catches: Hyatt's own page calls it adult-oriented but permits children, so it is no more child-free than Baoase, and it is not directly on a beach. - You want history and a real beach near town. Avila Beach Hotel has both and is walkable to Punda in a way Baoase is not. Its adults-only rule covers the Oceanfront Blues rooms only, not the property.
- You want contemporary design in a walkable district. Art Hotel Curacao, new in 2025, is adults-only, 30 rooms, Piet Boon design, Pietermaai. The honest catch: oceanfront on rock rather than sand.

The honest caveats
There is a three-night minimum, stated plainly in the resort's FAQ, so a two-night add-on to another stay is not on the table. With only 23 keys there is also no overflow, and peak dates go early.
It is not wheelchair accessible, which the resort states itself, attributing it to the layout of the grounds.
The beach is small. Guests commonly note this, usually alongside praise for how clean and sheltered the water is, and some note that a hand-built lagoon does not read as crystalline to everyone. If a long sweep of sand is your mental image, adjust it.
Meals run slow, and evenings are quiet. Guests commonly describe dinner pacing as leisurely to the point of being noticeable, and note that the resort encourages you never to leave. On a slow week that is the charm. On a tight schedule it is friction.
The bill compounds. With optional-only meal plans, two on-site restaurants, no walkable alternatives, and a taxi for everything else, food and transport add up faster than at a property inside a restaurant district. Baoase is the real thing at the top of Curacao's market. You are paying for scarcity: a hand-built beach, a lagoon calmer than the sea, 23 accommodations. You are giving up variety, facilities, walkability, and the option of a spontaneous night out.
You can also eat here without booking a room. Non-guests are welcome at both restaurants, reservations recommended, and the resort sells a beach day pass at the lagoon.
