The Best Hotels in Curacao: Where to Stay by Area and Type (2026)

The quick answer

The best hotel in Curacao depends on one choice: private beach or walkable city. For both at once, Avila Beach Hotel next to Pietermaai is the rare property with its own sand and a walk into the historic core; for adults-only all-inclusive, Sandals Royal Curacao; for families, Dreams Curacao on Piscadera Bay or Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort on the Rif coast at Otrobanda; for small-scale luxury, Baoase. Only five resorts on the island are genuinely all-inclusive (Sandals Royal Curacao, Dreams Curacao, Zoetry Curacao, Sunscape Curacao, and Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort), so if a listing implies otherwise, check before you book.

Curacao asks you to make a choice most Caribbean islands do not: beach or city. The island's best sand sits away from Willemstad, and its most interesting streets and restaurants sit away from the sand. Nearly every hotel decision here comes down to which of those two you want to walk out the front door into.

So this is not a ranking of every property on the island. It is the shortlist our local team would hand a friend, sorted by the decision they are actually weighing, with one honest trade-off each. No invented ratings, no nightly rates (they move too fast for an article to be honest about, so our booking hub shows live prices for your dates), and nothing called all-inclusive that is not one.

The shortlist

8 hand-picked
Avila Beach Hotel, on Pietermaai side of WillemstadOur pick overall

Avila Beach Hotel

Pietermaai side of Willemstad

Built around an 18th-century governor's mansion, with one of very few genuinely private beaches near the historic city.

Rooms span historic and newer wings, so the category you book matters more here than at a purpose-built resort.

Sandals Royal Curacao, on Santa Barbara and Spanish WaterOur pick for adults-only

Sandals Royal Curacao

Santa Barbara and Spanish Water

Roughly 350 rooms, 18 and over, all-inclusive, opened April 14, 2022 on the site of the former Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort.

A real drive from Willemstad, and the all-inclusive plan discourages exploring one of the better food scenes in the Dutch Caribbean.

Check dates & prices
Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort, on Rif coast, OtrobandaOur pick for all-inclusive

Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort

Rif coast, Otrobanda

Curio Collection by Hilton, 384 rooms including The Rif wing, beside the Rif Fort and the Curacao Rif Mangrove Park.

At that room count it reads as a resort complex rather than an intimate hotel.

Check dates & prices
Dreams Curacao, on Piscadera BayOur pick for families

Dreams Curacao

Piscadera Bay

All-ages and all-inclusive on the bay, tracing back to the 1967 Curacao Hilton, with a casino and an adults-only Preferred Club section (Il Mare).

Il Mare's beach also serves Zoetry Curacao guests from next door, so the adults-only stretch is not exclusive to Dreams guests.

Check dates & prices
Baoase Luxury Resort, on South coast just outside WillemstadOur pick for luxury

Baoase Luxury Resort

South coast just outside Willemstad

Twenty-three beachfront suites and villas, small enough that privacy is the actual product.

No big-resort infrastructure, no all-inclusive plan, and limited kids' programming.

Check dates & prices
Art Hotel Curacao, on PietermaaiOur pick for boutique

Art Hotel Curacao

Pietermaai

Thirty rooms, adults-only, Piet Boon interiors, new to the island in 2025.

Pietermaai's coast is rocky limestone, so beach days are drives rather than a walk downstairs.

Check dates & prices
LionsDive Beach Resort, on Mambo Beach (Bapor Kibra)Our pick for divers

LionsDive Beach Resort

Mambo Beach (Bapor Kibra)

Its own private beach, 165 units, and a dive-first identity going back to its 1989 opening, minutes from Willemstad.

The Mambo Beach club strip next door is lively, which is a feature on a Saturday and a problem if you wanted quiet.

Check dates & prices
Blue Bay Curacao Golf & Beach Resort, on Dorp Sint MichielOur pick for a villa or apartment stay

Blue Bay Curacao Golf & Beach Resort

Dorp Sint Michiel

Apartments and villas on a private beach with golf on site, and a kitchen that changes your food budget.

A spread-out resort community rather than a hotel: lighter service, no meal plan, and a car is effectively required.

The best hotels in Curacao, at a glance

  1. Best overall: Avila Beach Hotel, on the Pietermaai side of Willemstad. One of very few hotels near the city with its own private beach, built around an 18th-century governor's mansion.
  2. Best adults-only: Sandals Royal Curacao, Santa Barbara and Spanish Water. One of only two genuinely 18-and-over properties on the island, and the only adults-only all-inclusive.
  3. Best all-inclusive: Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort, Rif coast at Otrobanda. A Curio Collection by Hilton resort, 384 rooms including The Rif wing, and the broadest all-inclusive on Curacao.
  4. Best for families: Dreams Curacao, Piscadera Bay. All-ages and all-inclusive, with a casino and an adults-only Preferred Club section (Il Mare) inside it.
  5. Best luxury: Baoase Luxury Resort, south coast just outside Willemstad. Twenty-three suites and villas, beachfront, about as private as Curacao gets.
  6. Best boutique: Art Hotel Curacao, Pietermaai. Thirty rooms, adults-only 18 and over, Piet Boon design, new in 2025.
  7. Best for divers: LionsDive Beach Resort, Mambo Beach (Bapor Kibra). Its own private beach, 165 units, and a dive operation that has been the point of the place since 1989.
  8. Best villa or apartment stay: Blue Bay Curacao Golf & Beach Resort, Dorp Sint Michiel. Apartments and villas on a private beach, with golf on site.
  9. Best downtown base: Renaissance Wind Creek Curacao Resort, Otrobanda. Waterfront at the Rif Fort, a walk across the pontoon bridge from Punda, big casino downstairs.
  10. Best real beach without a mega-resort: The Kontiki Beach Resort, near Mambo Beach. Genuinely beachfront and smaller in scale than the all-inclusive resorts along the same coast.

Every one of those carries a real trade-off, spelled out below.

How to choose your area: Willemstad and Pietermaai vs Piscadera vs Jan Thiel and Mambo vs the west end

Willemstad and Pietermaai is the walkable base: restored colonial townhouses holding most of the island's boutique hotels, with dinner, drinks, and the Handelskade waterfront on foot from your room. Here is the part marketing photos blur. Pietermaai's coastline is largely rocky limestone, not sand, so the boutiques there (BijBlauw, Scuba Lodge, Boho, Art Hotel Curacao) are accurately oceanfront but are not sand-beach resorts. Avila Beach Hotel, just along the coast, is the exception with real private beach. Our Willemstad first-timer guide and Pietermaai nightlife guide cover what you are walking to.

Piscadera Bay is the resort bay between the airport and the city. Dreams Curacao, which traces back to the original Curacao Hilton that opened in 1967, and Zoetry Curacao sit adjacent there, both now under the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, with the Curacao Marriott Beach Resort on the same bay. Zoetry is not directly on the beach; its guests use the private beach at Il Mare Beach Club over at Dreams, a short golf cart ride away. The trade-off for the whole bay is that it is a resort pocket rather than a neighborhood, so dinner outside your own resort means a drive. Our all-inclusive resorts guide goes property by property.

Jan Thiel and Mambo Beach is the beach-club corridor southeast of the city, the closest thing Curacao has to a conventional resort strip: sheltered swimming, restaurants along the water, condos, and villas. Papagayo Beach Resort (villas) and Papagayo Beach Hotel are sister properties at Jan Thiel; Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort sits a few steps from the beach through gated access rather than directly on it, worth knowing before you book a "beach resort" here. ACOYA Curacao has villas near Mambo Beach with dive access, and The Kontiki Beach Resort, LionsDive Beach Resort, and Sunscape Curacao all sit on the Bapor Kibra strip by Mambo Beach and the Curacao Sea Aquarium, the opposite side of Willemstad from Piscadera Bay. Sandals Royal Curacao is further out on the Santa Barbara and Spanish Water side, quieter and a longer drive from town. See Jan Thiel and Mambo Beach for the beaches.

The west end splits into three. Blue Bay, at Dorp Sint Michiel, is close to the city but built as apartments and villas around a golf course and a private beach. Coral Estate Luxury Resort and Habitat Curacao sit further out at Rif St. Marie, both dive-oriented, within reach of beaches like Cas Abao. Kura Hulanda Lodge & Beach Club is out at Westpunt with 74 rooms and its own beach club, closest to Christoffel National Park and the shore-entry dive sites. The trade-off is driving, and our west versus east comparison is the honest version of that call.

One thing applies everywhere: Curacao rewards a rental car far more than a smaller island with a single hotel strip does, so read our car rental guide before assuming taxis will cover it.

Best overall: Avila Beach Hotel

Avila takes our overall pick for a structural reason rather than a sentimental one: it resolves the beach-or-city trade-off every other Curacao hotel forces on you. Built around an 18th-century governor's mansion, it holds one of the very few genuinely private beaches near town while keeping Pietermaai's restaurants and Punda's historic core within reach on foot.

The honest caveat: a hotel grown across historic and newer wings has no single consistent room product, so the category you book matters more here than at a purpose-built resort. Read the room description, not just the hotel page.

Plan My Curacao Trip

Best adults-only: Sandals Royal Curacao

Roughly 350 rooms, strictly 18 and over, all-inclusive, opened on April 14, 2022 on the Santa Barbara and Spanish Water side of the island. If you want the adults-only all-inclusive format at full resort scale, this is the only property on Curacao that delivers it.

The honest caveat: it stands on the site of the former Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort, which is closed, and that location is a real drive from Willemstad. An all-inclusive plan also quietly discourages eating off-property, which here means skipping one of the better food scenes in the Dutch Caribbean. Our Sandals Royal Curacao review is the longer look.

Best all-inclusive: Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort

Curio Collection by Hilton, 384 rooms including The Rif wing, on the Rif coast at Otrobanda beside the Rif Fort and the Curacao Rif Mangrove Park. It is the broadest all-inclusive on the island and the one we would point a mixed group to, with the walkable half of Willemstad close by rather than a drive.

The honest caveat: at that room count it reads as a resort complex rather than an intimate hotel, so if quiet is the point of your trip, take one of the smaller properties on this list.

Best for families: Dreams Curacao

All-ages, all-inclusive, on Piscadera Bay, with a casino and an adults-only Preferred Club section called Il Mare inside an otherwise family resort, a useful combination when the adults want an hour away from the main pool. The property traces back to the Curacao Hilton of 1967, so the bones are older than the brand.

The honest caveat: Il Mare's beach is also the beach that Zoetry Curacao guests are sent to, a short golf cart ride from next door, so the adults-only stretch is not exclusive to people staying at Dreams. Our Dreams Curacao review goes deeper, and our Curacao with kids guide covers what actually fills the days.

Best luxury: Baoase Luxury Resort

Twenty-three suites and villas, beachfront, on the south coast just outside Willemstad. Small enough that privacy is the product, close enough to town that dinner in Pietermaai is a short ride.

The honest caveat: at that size there is no big-resort infrastructure, no all-inclusive plan, and limited kids' programming, so families wanting a resort day camp should look at Piscadera instead. Couples should also read our Curacao honeymoon guide.

Best boutique: Art Hotel Curacao

Thirty rooms in Pietermaai, adults-only, with interiors by Dutch designer Piet Boon, new to the island in 2025. It is the most design-driven small hotel in the historic district.

The honest caveat: this is Pietermaai, so the coastline outside is rocky limestone rather than sand. Book it for the city, the architecture, and the walk to dinner, and plan beach days as drives.

Best for divers: LionsDive Beach Resort

At Bapor Kibra by Mambo Beach, with its own private beach, 165 units, and a dive-first identity going back to its 1989 opening. Shore entries out front, Willemstad minutes away.

The honest caveat: the Mambo Beach strip next door is one of the liveliest beach-club stretches on the island, a feature on a Saturday and a problem if you wanted silence. Divers should also read our shore diving guide.

Best villa or apartment stay: Blue Bay Curacao Golf & Beach Resort

Apartments and villas at Dorp Sint Michiel with a private beach and golf on the property. For families and groups this format usually beats two hotel rooms, and a kitchen moves your food budget more than any other decision, as our Curacao on a budget guide lays out.

The honest caveat: it is a spread-out resort community rather than a hotel, so service is lighter, there is no meal plan, and a car is required.

Best downtown base: Renaissance Wind Creek Curacao Resort

Waterfront in Otrobanda at the Rif Fort, a walk across the Queen Emma pontoon bridge from Punda, with a large casino on site. If your trip is mostly city, food, and culture, nothing puts you closer.

The honest caveat: there is no real ocean beach at the hotel itself, so beach time is an excursion. Our Renaissance Wind Creek review covers who that suits.

Plan My Curacao Trip

Best real beach without a mega-resort: The Kontiki Beach Resort

Beachfront near Mambo Beach, at a smaller scale than the big all-inclusives. The point is sand out front without a 400-room operation behind you.

The honest caveat: it is room-only rather than all-inclusive, and it sits in the island's busiest beach and nightlife zone, so quiet is not what you are buying.

Names that trip people up

Five properties on Curacao are genuinely all-inclusive: Sandals Royal Curacao, Dreams Curacao, Zoetry Curacao, Sunscape Curacao, and Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort. Everything else is room-only, apartment, villa, or boutique, whatever a booking page's marketing suggests.

A few other name traps worth knowing before you book the wrong thing:

  • Zoetry Curacao is the former Floris Suite Hotel. That name is retired. It is adult-oriented, but in Hyatt's own words on the property page, children are permitted, so it is not an adults-only hotel however often it gets listed as one. It is also not directly on the beach: guests use the private beach at Il Mare Beach Club over at Dreams Curacao. If a child-free stay is the point of your trip, get the answer in writing before you book. See our Zoetry Curacao review.
  • Curacao Marriott Beach Resort on Piscadera Bay is beachfront and all-ages. Courtyard by Marriott Curacao is a city hotel with no beach, over on the Rif coast road at Otrobanda. Two different products, similar names.
  • Kura Hulanda Lodge & Beach Club is out at Westpunt with its own beach club. It is a different property from the Kura Hulanda in Otrobanda, whose operating status we could not verify, so we are not recommending or describing that one.
  • Adults-only on Curacao is rarer than the marketing suggests. Only two properties are genuinely, enforceably adults-only: Sandals Royal Curacao, 18 and over brand-wide, and Art Hotel Curacao, which states it does not accommodate children. Zoetry is adult-oriented but permits children, Il Mare is an adults-only section inside all-ages Dreams Curacao, Avila Beach Hotel is adults-only for its Oceanfront Blues room category only, and Baoase is adult-oriented rather than officially adults-only. Our adults-only hotels guide sorts out which is which.
  • Sunscape Curacao is not on Piscadera Bay with its Hyatt Inclusive Collection siblings, whatever the shared branding implies. It sits at Bapor Kibra on the Mambo Beach and Sea Aquarium strip, roughly 7 km from Dreams and on the other side of Willemstad, with 341 rooms. That distance is not academic: Hyatt's own resort exchange terms include transportation to Dreams for Zoetry guests, but do not include transportation to Sunscape. Our Sunscape Curacao review covers where the savings show and where they do not.

If a property markets itself as brand new, check what it was before. Several of Curacao's headline resorts are rebrands of older hotels, which we track in our new Curacao resorts guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best hotels in Curacao?

Our picks: Avila Beach Hotel for the rare combination of a private beach and a walk into historic Willemstad, Sandals Royal Curacao for adults-only all-inclusive, Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort on the Rif coast and Dreams Curacao on Piscadera Bay for families, Baoase Luxury Resort for small-scale luxury, and LionsDive Beach Resort for divers.

How many all-inclusive resorts are there in Curacao?

Five: Sandals Royal Curacao, Dreams Curacao, Zoetry Curacao, Sunscape Curacao, and Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort (Curio Collection by Hilton). Everything else on the island is room-only, apartment, villa, or boutique, regardless of how a booking page words it.

Which area of Curacao is best for a first trip?

Jan Thiel and Mambo Beach for a straightforward beach week with restaurants and beach clubs on foot, Piscadera Bay if you want an all-inclusive between the airport and the city, and Pietermaai or Willemstad if food, architecture, and walkability matter more to you than sand.

Are there adults-only hotels in Curacao?

Two, fewer than the marketing suggests: Sandals Royal Curacao (18 and over) and Art Hotel Curacao in Pietermaai (adults-only, 30 rooms). Zoetry Curacao is adult-oriented but permits children, per Hyatt's own property page, so confirm in writing if a child-free stay matters. Il Mare is an adults-only Preferred Club section inside all-ages Dreams Curacao, Avila Beach Hotel is adults-only for its Oceanfront Blues room category only, and Baoase Luxury Resort is adult-oriented rather than officially adults-only.

Does Pietermaai have a beach?

Not a sand beach. Pietermaai's coastline is largely rocky limestone, so the district's boutique hotels are accurately oceanfront but are not classic beach resorts. Avila Beach Hotel, just along the coast, is one of the very few properties near the city with a real private beach.

Is the Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort still open in Curacao?

No. That resort is closed, and Sandals Royal Curacao opened on the same site on April 14, 2022 as an adults-only, 18 and over all-inclusive with roughly 350 rooms.
