LionsDive Beach Resort is the stay divers ask us about by name, and the one non-divers most often skip past without looking. Both instincts are half right, and the reasons are worth spelling out.
One piece of framing first, plainly. This is our local team's assessment of the resort from the outside: built on the resort's own published detail, its on-site dive operator's published programs, and the recurring themes in public guest feedback. We have not spent a night here, and we are not going to write as though we had.
The short answer
If diving is the reason you are coming to Curacao, LionsDive is the most straightforward answer on the island's southeast coast. It sits on its own private beach at Bapor Kibra, beside Mambo Beach and the Curacao Sea Aquarium, with the Ocean Encounters dive center on site and a genuine house reef, Stella Maris, a short fin kick off the sand. It is room-only rather than all-inclusive, a feature and not an oversight when the island's busiest food strip is a two minute walk from the property line.
If what you actually want is a wide, quiet, postcard beach, this is not the obvious pick. The famous west-end sand is still a drive away, and Mambo Beach is the developed, lively end of the island rather than the empty end.

What LionsDive actually is
LionsDive is an institution, not a new build, and that shapes the whole experience. The original 72-room hotel opened in May 1989, built by the Curacao Lions Club as a community project during the crisis that followed Shell's departure and the devaluation of the Venezuelan bolivar, aimed deliberately at recreational scuba divers because of the reef right offshore. It has grown into 165 accommodations, from resort-view and oceanfront rooms through beachfront cabanas to two-bedroom apartments and suites.
The practical shape of the place: its own private beach with shade, three pools (a 50-meter lap pool the resort bills as the Caribbean's only Olympic-length one, a U-shaped family pool by the sushi restaurant, and a shallow kids pool), a spa, a gym, and four restaurants. Those are Hemingway for all-day beachfront eating, Chill Beach Bar and Grill for the grill and cocktails, Nemo for sushi and wok dishes, and Piazza for pizza and pasta. Yoga, hiking, boot camp, snorkel sessions, happy hours, live music, and a local beach market fill in around them.
On the meal question, be precise before you budget: LionsDive is not all-inclusive. Its own guest information sets out breakfast, half board, and full board as plans you add to a reservation either at booking or at check-in, applied across the whole stay. Only five Curacao resorts are genuinely all-inclusive, and this is not one of them.
It is also all-ages rather than adults-only. Cribs, monitors, strollers, bottle warmers, and highchairs come free from the front desk when reserved in advance, and there are extra activities on selected days during school holidays.
The diving, honestly
The dive operation is why this resort has its reputation, and the details matter more than the badge.
The on-site operator is Ocean Encounters, a PADI 5 Star IDC Resort with 14 PADI instructors, open daily from 08:00 to 17:00, with staff working in English, Dutch, Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese. It runs facilities at both LionsDive and Sunscape Curacao, holds a PADI Green Star Award, and hosts Reef Renewal Curacao, the coral restoration initiative whose shallow-water nurseries sit on the reef in front of the resort.
What you can do straight off the beach: the Stella Maris house reef sits inside the Curacao Marine Park, named for the wreck lying on a deeper plateau below those coral nurseries, and it benefits from the constant easterly current pushing nutrients along this shoreline. Certified divers can walk in. Ocean Encounters runs a guided shore dive here in an afternoon slot, roughly 2:00pm to 4:00pm with about 90 minutes of dive time, minimum Open Water certification required, weights and a tank included, and both DIN and yoke connections available. Tanks are collected at the resort dock, house-reef maps are available, and a guide can join you rather than lead you.
Two details that are easy to get wrong. First, the shore diving is not unconditionally unlimited: the package language is unlimited air for shore diving on dive package days, which is generous but tied to the days you are booked to dive. Second, dive flags are mandatory by law in Curacao for shore entries, and the shop has them, so do not plan a self-guided dive without one. Gear lockers are locked outside shop hours, though a key is issued for night dives.
What needs a boat: the wider run of sites along the southeast coast. Ocean Encounters runs two-tank boat dives with daily departures and multi-day packages from three through seven days, plus night boat dives, fluorescent night dives, and lionfish dives. Boat mornings are strict: check-in at 8:00, departure at 8:30, so the first morning of a dive week is not the one to sleep through. Nitrox and air fills are on site, full rental kits including children's equipment are available, and adaptive diving is offered.

Non-divers are better served here than the name suggests. Guests commonly note the calm, shallow, walk-in water on the resort beach as easy with small children, with the caveat of some rocks at the entry. The location: Mambo Beach and the Sea Aquarium
This is the argument for LionsDive that has nothing to do with diving. The resort sits at Bapor Kibra, directly next to Mambo Beach and the Mambo Beach Boulevard strip, with the Curacao Sea Aquarium about a three minute walk away and more than 30 restaurants inside a third of a mile. The airport is under 15 km, and Willemstad's historic core is a short drive rather than an excursion.
What that buys is real: you can eat somewhere different every night without getting into a car, which the more isolated Curacao resorts cannot offer. Who it is for, and who should pick something else
Book LionsDive if you are a certified diver who wants to walk to the dive shop, if you want the beach and the boulevard in the same walk, or if you are a family after calm water and a kids pool without an adults-only rule.
Pick something else if:

Worth knowing about the neighbors. The Kontiki Beach Resort is the beachfront boutique option near Mambo Beach, with saltwater lagoons in its gardens. The honest caveats
Mambo Beach is the developed, busy end of Curacao. That is the trade for walkable food and nightlife, and it cuts both ways: guests who love the location say so loudly, and the ones who wanted quiet say that loudly too. In peak season this is the island's liveliest strip, not its calmest.
The famous beaches are still a drive. Cas Abao, Grote Knip, Playa Kalki, and the west-end shore-entry sites are 45 minutes to an hour away, and none of them are reachable by public transport. The bottom line
LionsDive earns its reputation for one reason that has held since 1989: it is a competent, unpretentious beach resort built on top of a serious dive operation, with a house reef you can swim to and the island's busiest food strip on the other side of the fence. If you dive, or if you want a beach base you can walk out of at dinner time, it is one of the easiest yes answers on Curacao. If you want an all-inclusive wristband, an adults-only pool deck, or an empty stretch of west-end sand, it is the wrong resort, and the guides above point to the right one.
